NATIONAL SEASHORE PARK
Our Field Trips include visits to an Estuary, Mosquito Lagoon, and Indian Mounds located near the Burns Sci-Tech Adjunct Classroom at Seminole Rest National Seashore Park. We also offer an Archaeological Digital Dig Program with a Monthly Ranger on Campus visit to present a student program. Marine Science Mentors work with students on Science Projects and some projects will be on display for visitors to the park. Volunteer, Dr. James Carr - Environmental Consultant and Developer of the Student Ranger Program and the Summer Teacher Ranger program, donated $5,000 in marine testing and science lab equipment for use in our Adjunct Classroom
SOUTHWEST AIRLINES
SW Airlines Pilot, Jeff Locke, taught a 6-week class - Adopt-A-Pilot Program for the 5th grade. He helped us learn how to use our flight simulator, complete with instruments.
SPRUCE CREEK FLY-IN
The Experimental Aviation Association provides an Aviation Career Day, Fly-Over, and free “Eagle Flights” to interested students and their parents. They sponsored the flight simulator program for the school.
NASA SPEAKERS BUREAU
Engineers, scientists and other professionals who represent the agency are scheduled to speak to our students on a regular basis.
MUSEUM OF ARTS & SCIENCES
Zach Zacharius, Education Curator of the Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS), Daytona Beach, obtained a $10,000 Archaeology National Grant from the American Association of University Women for Burns Science and Technology Charter School. A “mock” dig site was created on the school campus, teaching all students about the science of archaeology. The school integrated this hands-on-activity into classroom academics. The MOAS also provides a Fall Family Science Night on the school campus, which included 15 science stations. Each grade level has opportunity to attend the Children’s Science Center and planetarium presentation at the MOAS during the year for only $5.00.
BOSTON WHALER
Boston Whaler, located in Edgewater, FL has donated backpacks for students, every year since the school opened in 2011. The backpacks are loaded with supplies and are delivered in a Boston Whaler boat at the beginning of each school year.
